Las Piedras is a friendly, family run business specialising in wheelchair accessible holidays in the Axarquia region of Southern Spain: Mediterranean coastal breaks, rural getaways, cultural touring holidays and lots more besides.
Our luxury, accessible accommodation is of the highest standard and totally wheelchair frendly. We have our own accessible transport and offer airport transfers and excursions.
This disabled friendly hotel is just half an hour from the beaches of the Costa del Sol and just an hour's drive from Malaga Airport. In a stunning rural location, with beautiful views, it is ideally situated for exploring the Axarquia region and the best of Andalusia.
Holidays for All! We offer something for everyone and cater for individuals, couples, families and groups, disabled and non-disabled alike.
Adrian and Hannah Stone moved to Spain from Wales in 2002 to open an accessible hotel to provide holidays for disabled people, their friends and family. Before that, most of their careers were spent in tourism, with 3 years providing and guiding tours for disabled people all over the world. This gave them the idea of setting up their own disabled friendly hotel.
Time after time, either the hotel would be lovely, but the facilities for disabled people were (despite brochure claims) totally inadequate, or the facilities were great, but it felt like a nursing home rather than holiday accommodation. People with disabilities deserved better and Las Piedras was born!
Since opening for business in 2003 Las Piedras has gone from strength to strength. An extra room was added to help cope with demand and the busiest times of year are booked up years in advance. Yet, Las Piedras still retains its homely, relaxed atmosphere, thanks to Adrian and Hannah, their young family and friendly team of staff.
The large, luxurious bedrooms are finished in a traditional style with Spanish tiles, terracotta and solid wooden fixtures and fittings. The rooms all open out directly onto a terrace. All bedrooms are wheelchair friendly and barrier-free. Each has its own large, accessible en-suite wet room style bathroom, with roll-in showers and grab rails. Linen and towels are provided.
Comfortable beds with the choice of single / twins or super-king-size doubles. Electric profiling beds are also available to hire. There are three double rooms which sleep up to 2 people and two rooms are family / quad rooms which sleep up to 4 and have bunk beds. All of the rooms are spacious enough to accommodate a cot or extra bed if necessary.
Conveniences such as a kettle with complimentary tea & coffee and hairdryers are provided. A very reasonable laundry service is available. For your comfort each room is air conditioned and heated.
Las Piedras is specifically designed with the needs of physically disabled people in mind. To that end the entire hotel and grounds are barrier free and accessible. There is considerable attention to detail throughout. Clothing rails, hooks and switches are lowered, power points are raised.
There are extra-wide doors and there is extra clearance under tables and sinks for wheelchairs and clearance under beds for hoists. The rooms are large with ample turning circles and level or graduated ramp access to all areas.
We have a range of mobility aids for use or hire and can provide personal care / assistance if required by prior arrangement. In the grounds we have a specially designed swimming pool complete with grab-rails and hoist. We have our own fleet of accessible vehicles and provide airport transfers and excursions.
Las Piedras has a pleasant bar and indoor dining area and a vine covered al fresco dining area with mountain views. The delicious meals are home cooked with a strong Mediterranean influence making the most of the fantastic, fresh local produce.
The set menu is different every night and features many local dishes. Vegetarians and those with other special diets and allergies are well catered for. We can provide blended meals and children's meals.
The bar is well stocked and reasonably priced. We have a comprehensive Spanish wine list, San Miguel on tap and a large variety of spirits and soft drinks, there is also a poolside "help yourself" bar fridge.
The lounge area has comfy sofas with a TV showing British channels, a DVD player with a selection of DVDs, a large selection of books and board games. There is a wood burning stove for those colder winter nights. There are no other bars or restaurants within walking distance, no nightclubs nearby, no Karaoke or Bingo. You're more likely to find yourself sitting out on one of our terraces enjoying the pleasant evenings and surroundings, perhaps with a glass of Rioja or Sangria, maybe watching the moon come up over the mountain or chatting with the other guests!
The pretty grounds are planted with olive, citrus, almond and other fruit trees and flowers and are ramped and accessible throughout. The ample swimming pool terrace has stunning views to the mountain and its own pool bar / fridge.
The swimming pool was designed especially for Las Piedras, has handrails all the way around and a hoist which can be used with a chair or a sling. Generally the temperature is warm enough for swimming from mid May to mid October.
Excursions are available every day except for Arrival and Departure days and Sundays when everyone can enjoy one of Adrian's famous Barbecues.
The lounge has a large selection of books, board games and a television with British channels and a selection of DVDs.
Shiatsu & Aromatherapy Massages and treatments as well as beauty and hair-dressing services are available on site.
