Disabled sailor completes epic voyage

Filed under: News — Tags: — ian @ 10:23 am

Life throws up so many challenges in all sorts of guises. Some you just deal with, others change your life forever.

Hilary Lister had one of those moments over twenty years ago. As a teenager she was diagnosed with reflex sympathetic dystrophy, a progressive neurological disorder. Over the years this has gradually reduced Hilary’s mobility and now she is quadriplegic and a full time wheelchair user.

But, like so many other people facing such a huge personal challenge, Hilary had other challenges to face and conquer. And this time the challenge was of her own doing.

Hilary is now the first quadriplegic yachtswoman’s to sail solo around Britain.

That simple sentence is quick to read but just think about what that feat actually entailed. It is an enormous accomplishment and not one for the faint-hearted.

Congratulations to Hilary Lister from a true land-lubber!

Head over to Hilary’s website and help her charity, Hilary’s Dream Trust, which exists to provide assistance to disabled and disadvantaged adults who want to sail. I’m sure that all donations will be gratefully received…
